Interpersonal Behaviour—the Building Block of Relationships and Collaboration

Interpersonal behaviour is the behaviour and actions that are present in human relationships, and are crucial to an individual’s effectiveness. Individual development is about an organisation offering a structured development process to enhance self-awareness and learning to make conscious, informed choices on how to become more effective.

Diagnostics such as the CBS360 are used to give individuals insights about their interpersonal behaviour: identifying strengths and areas that need development, documenting these areas in individual development plans, and specifying how the individual is going to improve.

Feedback is fundamental to all growth and development. It is critical for making adjustments to how we behave. In an ideal world, feedback about areas that need improvement would be freely given, unfiltered, and unambiguous. Of course, most of us work in organisations that are far less utopian in their feedback practices. The use of structured 360° processes is a step towards better feedback. A well managed feedback process that is based on proven evidence-based tools and techniques, and ethical practices can provide individuals with feedback that they can understand, trust, and use to improve their effectiveness.

Therefore our approach to developing individuals focuses on developing the interpersonal behaviour styles of Influential, Initiating, and Empathetic to enhance individual effectiveness.

  • ENLIGHTEN them about strengths and development areas.
  • ENCOURAGE the individual to identify and action plan strategies to enhance their interpersonal behaviour style.
  • EMBED more effective interpersonal behaviours through on-going development activities.
  • EVALUATE and monitor the implementation of individual development plans and at critical points remeasure.
